Business Analyst
Salary/Position Classification
- $63,000+ annual, Exempt
- 40 hours per week
- This position will be hybrid and required to work on-campus 3 days per week.
Purpose of Position
UIT PMO manages projects sponsored by UND IT and other departments requiring UIT to manage their initiatives. A factor contributing to a successful project is ensuring that requirements are gathered and defined to start a project.
The Business Analyst role is critical in ensuring the project is defined. The position will elicit, analyze, specify, and validate the business needs of impacted groups, be they customers or end users. This includes interviewing stakeholders and gathering and compiling user requirements to understand the technology solutions they need.
The Business Analyst will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help the business make good technology decisions. The role will serve as a thought leader for technical business processes, developing systems prototypes that promote increased efficiency and productivity on multiple levels.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform Business Analyst Tasks in Projects
- Collaborate with project sponsors to determine project scope and vision.
- Conduct stakeholder analysis and gather user requirements through workshops, surveys, site visits, and other methods.
- Document and formally initiate and deliver requirements to both internal and external teams.
- Define project requirements, impact, and outcome metrics, and prioritize them with stakeholders.
- Participate in QA testing and assist in the selection of documentation software tools.
- Support change management efforts to ensure user adoption of implemented changes.
- Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, feasibility, and adherence to standards.
- Develop and utilize standard templates to accurately write requirements specifications.
- Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide development teams.
- Assist with collecting and analyzing project metrics to refine processes and improve future project estimation efforts.
- Contribute to the development of business analysis tools, templates, and methods.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and participate in relevant professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or CIO.
Required Competencies
- Strong organizational skills to effectively manage time and multiple projects at once.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to communicate with a broad range of constituencies across all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated project management skills and project management software skills, including planning, organizing, and managing resources
- Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language
- Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to be collaborative and build consensus.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree OR associates degree with 3 years of directly related experience
- Three years of experience as a system business analyst with strong knowledge of application development and software development life cycle concepts.
- Proven experience in business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modelling, verification, and methodology development to create Business Requirements Document (BRD), Functional Requirements Document (FRD), use cases, user stories and other project related documents
- Experience facilitating requirements gathering and user testing.
- Working knowledge of various methodology such as agile, waterfall, hybrid.
- High proficiency in Microsoft products, including MS Visio
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA) or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or willingness to work toward certification.
- High proficiency in technical writing
- Experience working in higher education.
